Since its foundation, the Cooperative Bank of Chania, as a unit of social economy, has been supporting the local community with corporate social responsibility actions that call for the Bank’s social, environmental and cultural support.

During the financial crisis, through its special Corporate Social Responsibility Program the Bank offered necessities to social structures in order to support financially disadvantaged citizens.

More specifically, the Program offered support to various structures (social grocery stores, soup kitchens etc.) offering basic necessities and food to a total value of 372.000 Euros; sponsorships of 207.000 Euros were offered to municipalities, municipal associations, educational institutions, charities, cultural associations, ecclesiastical bodies and sports associations.

Moreover, the Bank donated cars and fire engines to municipalities and other associations around Crete, helmets to the Hellenic Police, provided financial support to the Crete Municipal and Regional Theater to help it avoid shutdown and the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” and financed important archaeological studies.

It also donated to schools of all levels of education 139 computers, 18 printers and school supplies.

Finally, the Conference Room of the Administration Building has been granted for free to public bodies, associations and unions, hosting to date 489 events.
