The Cooperative Bank of Chania informs its members, clients, partners, and all interested parties that recent publications circulating in parts of the print and electronic media questioning the Bank’s capital adequacy are entirely unfounded and inaccurate.

For several years, the Cooperative Bank of Chania has consistently demonstrated outstanding financial performance, managing to respond solely through its own resources to the successive crises that have radically reshaped the Greek banking landscape over the past fifteen years. The Bank maintains a consistently healthy financial structure and a strong capital base while remaining steadily profitable.

The Bank has been and remains adequately capitalized, with a Capital Adequacy Ratio standing at 16% as of 31.12.2024, well above the minimum regulatory requirement set by the Bank of Greece. At the same time, the Bank’s liquidity ratio is more than double the regulatory minimum. Consequently, the Bank continues to enjoy the trust of the investment community, a fact that was recently reaffirmed by the immediate oversubscription of its Tier 2 Subordinated Bond issuance.

With strong capital adequacy indicators, under the supervision of the Bank of Greece, in strict compliance with the regulatory framework, and with the support of our members, partners, and staff, we will continue to work with consistency and stability toward the further strengthening of our Bank.

We reserve all legal rights regarding such publications, which aim to undermine the credibility of the Bank, but also harm our depositors, our employees, the Greek banking system as a whole, and the local economy and society that the Cooperative Bank of Chania has unwaveringly supported since its establishment.

The Cooperative Bank of Chania, recognizing its important role in society, consistently operates with a sense of responsibility towards all its stakeholders. Through a well-structured Corporate Social Responsibility program, it has continuously made a positive impact on the community.

In this context, it is implementing the “Digital School by Bank of Chania” program. This initiative involves the donation of digital equipment to modernize Greek schools, promoting new and innovative learning methods that encourage interactive student participation in the classroom while enhancing their digital skills.

Specifically, the Cooperative Bank of Chania is donating 200 desktop computers to schools in Crete. Today, the first 40 computers were delivered to 20 schools, with the remaining units to be donated in the near future.

Looking to the future, the Cooperative Bank of Chania supports the new generation in building the skills needed for tomorrow. A future that must focus on sustainable development and innovation, key pillars that the bank has highlighted through two important corporate social responsibility programs. The “Green School by Bank of Chania” program, which promotes best practices related to the environment, society, and corporate governance, is already being implemented successfully.

The Cooperative Bank of Chania, continuing its support for small and medium-sized enterprises, participates in the new business fund “TEPIX III” managed by the Hellenic Development Bank (HDB SA).

The Bank offers the new financing tools of TEPIX III to very small, small, and medium-sized enterprises, supporting their investment plans and providing liquidity with favorable terms, reduced collateral requirements, and interest rate subsidies.

TEPIX III Loan Fund

The Cooperative Bank of Chania participates in the “TEPIX III Loan Fund,” providing loans with favorable terms to meet the financing needs of businesses based in Greece, aiming to strengthen their productive activities and enhance their competitiveness. This initiative involves offering new loans with favorable terms to SMEs for their financing needs (investment loans and working capital to expand and develop business activities), funded by both the Bank and the Co-Financing Fund managed by HDB. These are fixed-term loans with a preferential interest rate. Forty percent of the loan amount funded by the Fund is interest-free, while for the Bank’s interest rate applied to 60% of the loan amount, the following conditions apply:

– A reduction in interest rate of at least 25 basis points compared to similar financing without public support.
– A two-year interest rate subsidy of 3% annually (subject to conditions).
– Reduced collateral requirements.

TEPIX III Guarantee Fund

The Cooperative Bank of Chania also participates in the “TEPIX III Guarantee Fund” for providing guaranteed loans with favorable terms to SMEs based in Greece to cover working capital needs (fixed-term and revolving credit) and investment loans, following the submission of a business plan.

The Guarantee Fund consists of two sub-programs/sub-funds depending on the characteristics of eligible businesses:

– The “General Entrepreneurship” sub-fund, targeting SMEs.
– The “Startup Entrepreneurship” sub-fund, targeting very small and small businesses up to five years old.

Loans under the “General Entrepreneurship” sub-program will be guaranteed by the Guarantee Fund at 70%, while loans under the “Startup Entrepreneurship” sub-program will be guaranteed at 80%. The Fund will provide an interest subsidy of up to 3% for the first two years of financing for businesses meeting specific criteria, as well as a zero guarantee fee.

Application Process for the TEPIX III Loan and Guarantee Funds

Eligible businesses can submit an electronic application through:

A) The Hellenic Development Bank’s KYC (Know Your Customer) platform at www.hdb.gr, selecting the Cooperative Bank of Chania as the partnering bank. For each completed application, after eligibility assessments, the application is forwarded to the Bank. If the application is initially accepted, a non-binding offer is issued, and a unique code is generated.

B) The Integrated State Aid Information System (OΠΣΚΕ) at https://app.opske.gr/, where the unique application number from the KYC platform must be entered for the business to continue the submission and completion of the electronic application with the Bank that issued the non-binding offer.

For information and appointments, contact the Bank’s Branch Network and ATMs.

– Higher connections speeds, more efficient operation, and better quality of services, combined with increased security at the bank’s systems and applications

Chania Bank selected the OTE Group in order to strengthen its effectiveness and fortify its operations, in accordance with the needs of the new digital era. The project concerns the telecommunications infrastructure upgrade of the central offices and branches of the bank, while also strengthening its IT and network systems’ cyber security.

The new infrastructure will improve the daily life of employees and customers of Chania Bank, by providing higher connection speeds, more efficient operation, and better quality of services. Furthermore, COSMOTE’s Cyber Security Solutions will enhance the mechanisms protecting the bank’s systems and applications.

This three-year project includes the replacement of network, data, and voice equipment, both at the Bank’s central offices, and at its ATMs and branches, upgrading the call centre, implementing IP telephony, Wi-Fi networks, and technical support.
